Greg Kahn as a junior-high student in Ames, Iowa
Teacher calls on Greg to answer a question…
Greg: (Stands) Thank you for calling on me, Ms. [], to answer this very important question that demonstrates my having completed last night’s homework. (Class begins to laugh) Before I begin my remarks, I would first like to thank Adam Elrod for NOT having done his homework yesterday evening… (Class erupts in laughter)
Adam: I did do my homework! I DID! (plaintively lifting his completed homework into the air)
Greg: As I was saying…
Teacher: (shaking down-facing head and laughing) Greg, just sit down…
A few years ago, I posted on Facebook about trying to convince my son that when his teacher asks a True/False question, the answer is unlikely to be 6. Sadly, I can’t find Greg’s reply, but he said that 6 wasn’t a bad answer; Greg said he certainly should have tried 6 a time or two in law school when he was eviscerated for trying to weasel out of some tough questions. “What did the courts rule in blah-blah vs. blah-blah?” He concluded, “The answer 6 would have served me much better than whatever I said.”
