Obituary

Gregory Howard Kahn, 45, who had been living in Singapore since 2008, died May 9, 2013, in Hong Kong.  Loving husband and father, he will be remembered for his razor sharp wit, infectious laugh and his obsession with sports, movies, politics and Bruce Springsteen.

Since 2008, Gregory was the Singapore-based General Counsel of South and Southeast Asia for Verizon Business. From 2000 to 2008, he held several senior level legal positions at Verizon and MCI in the Washington, D.C., area. He was the McCormick Legal Fellow at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press in Arlington, Va., from 1999 to 2000, and worked as an associate at the Houston, Texas offices of Fulbright & Jaworski from 1996 to 1999. In 1995 and 1996, Gregory served as a clerk to Texas Supreme Court Justice Rose B. Spector. Prior to his legal career, he was a reporter at the Baytown Sun newspaper in Baytown, Texas.

Born in Carbondale, IL in 1968 to Ronnetta and Arnold Kahn, Gregory grew up in Ames, IA and Bethesda, MD.  He graduated from Walt Whitman High School in 1986. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1990 from Rice University in Houston, TX where he was also the co-editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The Rice Thresher. Gregory received his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 1995.

Gregory was married to Melissa Maxwell and was overjoyed with the birth of their son Benjamin Maxwell Kahn in 2011. Although family was always a priority, he was also passionate about photography, writing, and travel.

Gregory was predeceased by his mother, Ronnetta Bisman Kahn. In addition to his wife, Melissa Maxwell, and son, Benjamin Maxwell Kahn, he is survived by his father, Arnold S. Kahn and his wife, Elly Swecker, of Harrisonburg, VA; his aunt, Sharon Kahn and her partner, Barrie MacFadden, of Vancouver, BC and his sister, Jessica Kahn, of Sacramento, CA.
