I was fortunate to meet Greg when he was a freshman at Rice way back when. While he was in a different advisory group, we got to know each other. I think early on, I like many many others, recognized that Greg was someone special.
We carried on a great friendship in college. Even though we may not have hung out every day, there was NEVER a time when he did not have a kind word, an interesting story, or a something great to say.
Time conspires against all of us to lose touch but luckily Facebook was there and we managed to keep up through an occasional 'inbox' and the postings. I am so glad life had bestowed so much joy on such a deserving person.
Just about a year ago, I was traveling with my family to India and had a slight delay at the Delhi airport. While talking to my kids, I spied Greg out of the corner of my eye. After the shock wore off, we chased each other down and spent some time together. My daughters both mentioned how amazing it was that I bumped into such a great friend with no planning. I realized at that moment again how special Greg is.....I had not seen him in 20 years and my children recognized him as a great friend. I am convinced a higher power ensured we saw each other last year and we renewed acquaintances.
The world is a lonelier place without Greg in it but memories of him will always remind us of fortunate we all are to have known him and the importance of friendship.
